The telecom industry’s worst fears seem to be coming true.
Intense competition has started forcing operators to slash prices, impacting margins. This, even as volume growth remains stagnant, with most operators seen reporting lower-than-average subscriber additions this quarter.
And the scenario is seen worsening due to regulatory uncertainties.
“Subscriber additions were down 36% month on month in June to 4.6 million, taking the GSM subscriber base to 677 million,” Rumit Dugar, Manoj Singla and Udit Garg, analysts with Religare, noted in a note dated July 23.
