26/10/2011: The Union Cabinet approved a scheme to set up a National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN)

Union cabinet  on 25/10/2011,  approved for setting up of NOFN with equity participation from BSNL,GAIL,Railtel,PGCIL.  USO fund will be utilised to lay OFC network till Panchayaths. As assured earlier,BSNL was to be the agency to implement this project. But, Finance ministry objected to this as level playing field is to be provided in the project of National importance. As BSNL is a stake holder in it,surplus staff can be deputed to NOFN, hence, operating cost of BSNL  to reduce ....
